Bosnic Interview

Bosnic is a talented visual artist from Greensboro, North Carolina by which his subject matter includes abstracts landscapes and portraits. At Bosnic's gallery studio, I could not overlook my admiration for the beauty and expressive nature revealed within his brushstrokes upon canvas.

Following is my studio visit with Bosnic.

1- Why do you create art?

Art is how you describe yourself, and your thoughts. Just like writers or musicians painting is one form of communication. Art is a tool that serves as a bridge between your soul and the audience.

2- What inspires you?

Life inspires me, in general, each day we are facing up and downs that can change often and bring out emotions as a response to certain situations this is what inspires me. It activates my attention. Life is colorful and beautiful, it’s enough to create art. We are living comfortable lives these days, and it gives us time to see the world around us to find inspiration in anything. Even in debates with co-workers or small talk in a grocery store whatever it may be can spark an idea. Life is inspiring. We live in a life where inspiration is everywhere, anything can happen that provides enough influence. After all, I am inspired by my everyday life.

3- What is your perspective on the future of art?

I wish to see more traditional paintings, instead, most things are more and more digital. Compared to music, we are choosing an easy way to express our ideas in digital artwork. I wish to see the artwork in the future be more traditional paintings instead of clicking a button. You’re clicking, no emphasis, no connection from the artist. It takes the energy out. With digital arts when you paint through the lines and brush strokes you miss it. Digital software is doing the work for you. I miss the more traditional painting, where your energy falls through the strokes.

Over time that may disappear, like who creates furniture, it was completely handmade, now it’s all machines doing it. Eventually, painting may disappear I wish people can paint more. We might be the last generation to paint more in the traditional way compared to future generations. They're letting kids follow their in stinct than teaching them the styles, and afraid of hurting their feelings by not expressing themselves.

If you’re too soft then it’s not good for you. You have to be strong and sacrifice and be aware of what is going on. Be able to see the near future and plan. The talent of painting alone, may not be enough you have to be all of it. Be dynamic. Have tough skin, still, you need emotions, it’s the best tool that artists have we are using our emotions to paint. But you cannot be too emotional to understand the world and not feel hurt if the world judges you.

4- What are your experiences in Commission and gallery experiences as for cost as well?

In a gallery, if someone buys one of your paintings, the gallery takes 30-45% of your sale profit, this is something an artist needs to consider beforehand. Galleries make more money than the artist. The artist needs to pay to rent space, shipping, and framing. My artwork was displayed in various galleries in New York City, Italy, Nice France, and Monte Carlo. Shipping once cost me $400 to ship a few paintings. Galleries have a business mindset, they want business and money.

5- Closing thoughts?

As an artist, if you want to make a living, you must sell. Design is not just what you do, but to understand the broad spectrum of things. In addition to my passion for painting, in my full-time job, I work with CAD design software for the dental industry. I’m designing, scanning, importing to software, and exporting. When something needs improvement it is about finding solutions.

Conclusion

I appreciate Bosnic in sharing his experiences and providing creative insight. His paintings express energy and beauty. Bosnic paintings are truly admirable! As he stated earlier it is essential to be strong, consider the big picture, be dynamic, have a plan set goals, and prepare the type of creative future you desire. Thank you Bosnic.
